Outreach Programmes



"The Agenda of the Apprentice Scientist" by Prof. Nicole Ostrowsky, former Head of the Laboratory of Physics and Condensed matter, University of Nice, France is an initiative to popularize science through simple experiments which is aimed to make learning a pleasurable experience at the middle school level, on a daily basis. Prof. C. N. R. Rao, FRS, National Research Professor, Chairman, Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, President, Vision Group on Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka and Prof. P. Balaram, Director, Indian Institute of Science and Chairman, Executive Committee, KSCST have strongly recommend that this activity book be made a part of every school library and every teacher’s personal collection.

In this background, KSCST translated this dairy / activity book with the permission of the author and publisher to popularize the approach to help teachers & students of the State to appreciate and learn interesting facts covered in the book. Dr. S. G. S. Swamy, Fellow, KSCST translated the book into Kannada language.

The Council has received financial assistance from DST-GOK (Rs 7.50 Lakhs), Vision Group on Science and Technology, DST, Government of Karnataka (Rs. 5.00 Lakhs) and Indo-French Centre for the promotion of advanced Research (CEFIPRA) (Rs. 4.0 Lakhs) to print the above book in Kannada.

The Council had printed 4000 copies of the Kannada version of the above book through the University Press, Hyderabad. The above book has been released on the occasion of the National Science Day - 2014. The book has been released by Prof. Roddam Narasimha, FRS, Engineering Mechanics Unit, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bangalore on the occasion of National Science Day 2014. The Original Author of the book Prof. Nicole Ostrowsky, Former Head, Department of Physics and Condensed Matter, University of Nice, France and Mr. Eric Lavertu, Consulate General of France attended the function as Chief Guests. The guest of honour was Shri. S. S. Nakul, IAS, Director, Dept. of Information Technology, Biotechnology, Government of Karnataka. Prof. B. N. Raghunandan, Dean, Engineering, Indian Institute of Science presided over the function.

Prof. Nicole Ostrowsky expressed her happiness that the book has been translated into Kannada has facilitated many students of Karnataka to understand science as she also shared her experience of writing the above book and gave tips as to how effectively the students can utilize this book.

About 1200 copies of the Kannada book "ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನಿಯ ದಿನಚರಿ" (Vidyarthi Vijnaniya Dinachari)  has been distributed to the students on the occasion of National Science Day- 2014 programme held at J. N. Tata Auditorium, Indian Institute of Science on 28th February 2014.  Copies of this book would be distributed to each school in the State.
