National Space Day Celebrations
Background:
The Government of India has declared August 23rd of each
year as "National Space Day" to commemorate the success of the Chandrayaan-3
mission, which achieved a safe and soft landing of the Vikram Lander at
'Shiv Shakti' point and deployment of the Pragyaan Rover on the lunar
surface on August 23, 2023.
Objectives:
• To commemorate significant achievements in space exploration and inspire
the next generation to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering,
and Mathematics (STEM).
• To engage and inspire the youth of the nation toward space technology and
its applications.
• To inspire future generations and highlight the importance of space
science and technology in shaping our world.
National Space Day Celebrations 2025
The KSCST celebrated National Space Day 2025 at the district level in Bidar,
Haveri, Ramanagara, and Udupi. The events were facilitated by District NRDMS
officials and the KSCST Regional Centre at Kalaburagi.
KSCST also supported two
institutions 1) Kristu Jayanti (Deemed to be University) and 2) Karnataka
Jnana Vijnana Samithi (KJVS) to conduct the programme at district places.
This program has drawn participation from approximately 3,500 students. The
celebrations included a variety of engaging activities: technical lectures,
a Science and Space Technology Exhibition, demonstrations using telescopes,
and sky-watching sessions.

National Space Day Celebrations 2024
Celebration of National Space Day at state level:
Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology
(KSCST) in collaboration with the Karnataka Residential Education
Institutions Society (KREIS) organized a day progrmme for a residential
school high school and PU college students at Morarji Desai Residential High
School and PU college Adakamaranahalli, Bengaluru north on 23rd August 2024.
Around 300 students and 30 teachers were participated in the event.
The programme was inaugurated by the resource person Mr.
Hiriyanna S. Scientist (Retired), ISRO Bengaluru. He addressed the gathering
about the fun in science and aim of celebrating of Space Day. Dr. U. T.
Vijay, Executive Secretary, KSCST briefed background of National Space Day
and motivated students to take science as career.

Celebration of National Space Day at district
level:
The council celebrated National Space Day 2024 at Hasan,
Mysuru, Davangere, Ballari, and Shivamogga districts through NRDMS
officials. Around 1500 students participated in the programme. The following

Celebration of National Space Day through Science
centres and Academic institutions:
In collaboration with science centres and academic
institutions celebrated National Space Day across the state. Around 800
students participated in the programme.

India Space Week Celebrations on August 12 to 18,
2024
India Space Week is organized annually from August 12 to
August 18 by the Bharat Antriksh Saptah. The purpose of this is to
permanently establish Dr. Vikram Sarabhai (Great Space Scientist) in the
hearts of the youth/students of our country, who established the first space
science institute like ISRO in India.
During this week, The following activities will take
place throughout the week: Space Awareness Initiatives, CanSat & CubeSat
Programs at IITs, Space Medical Programs at Medical Colleges, Space Economy
Discussions at MBA Colleges, Technology Showcases at Engineering Colleges,
Space Policy Discussions at Law Colleges, Space Fashion Show and Costume
Programs Competitions: Drawing and Painting, Speech-Discussion, and Essay
Writing, Azadi Ka Mahotsav in Amrit Kaal Celebrations, Interactions with
Scientists. These programs are designed to enhance public understanding of
space science. They will involve participation from approximately 120,000
students from around 1,550 schools and colleges affiliated with India Space
Week, who will actively participate in various educational programs. These
programs are designed to disseminate the latest information on space science
and foster interest among students and the general public. ISRO and DRDO
experienced scientists will support the educational sessions, ensuring
participants receive high-quality information and insights. This year's
event is particularly significant as it coincides with the successful
Chandrayaan-3 mission, which has garnered national pride and attention.
The theme of India Space Week 2024 - Space Education and Employment.
This year's celebration also coincides with the
success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission and the upcoming National Space Day on
August 23, 2024. These efforts are aligned with Prime Minister Narendra
Modi's vision of inspiring Indian citizens to contribute to the field of
space science. By engaging educational institutions nationwide, India Space
Week aims to foster a culture of innovation and exploration in space
technology.
